Just because Halloween has come and gone doesn’t mean my craving for chocolate candies is satisfied! More often than not, generic grocery store chocolate candy ends up disappointing me these days….the chocolate isn’t intense enough, the fillings are often way too sweet, and the flavor balance just could be so much better (yeah, I’m that kind of candy snob!) So, in an effort to remedy this issue, I decided to make my favorite store-bought candies myself..starting with Almond Joy.
The recipe is actually pretty simple. There aren’t a lot of ingredients, and the results are delicious I tell ya!! If you’re already an Almond Joy fan you’ll be blown away by these. I found that the key secrets are to toast the coconut to bring out all of the wonderful nutty flavors and to use salted almonds for a little extra depth and to offset the sweet coconut mixture. You can choose your favorite type of chocolate for dipping, I decided to go with semi-sweet because I prefer it over milk chocolate. Try it out and let me know what you think!! Nom nom…
