Oh Lovelies, it’s been SO long, I know! What was planned to be just a short few weeks of site re-design, actually turned into a rather lengthy break. Turns out, sometimes a hiatus is a really healthy way to reflect, turn your creative thoughts inward, and understand what’s important. I realized a few things about myself and my creative process that I may not have given myself permission to think about without this break. Stepping away from your blog/site/studio/camera every once in a while can reveal the opportunity to think about what your work actually means to YOU. Here’s some of what I I learned:
While being a type A perfectionist is generally useful in life, it also has the power to stunt creative growth. This was definitely happening to me while I was pushing myself to come up with original content 5 days a week and expecting it to all be perfect (perfect photos, perfect writing, perfect design etc.) Letting go a little and accepting imperfection is (& needs to be) part of it all. I’m actively working on not striving for “perfect” all the time now, realizing that I’m a one-woman-show. With that in mind, I aim to post fewer times every week from here on out. I’ll start off slow to get my groove back and will aim for 3 posts a week on the regular. This will give me enough breathing room to truly love what I put out there & not feel pressured to just throw new things at you all week long while still living my life outside of Miss Renaissance. I know you’ll have my back on this, right?! We all fall prey to the “busy trap” every now and then, believing that the busier we are, the more important and successful our lives will be. In reality though, taking your time with your work, slowing down a little, and really thinking about what you’re doing will yield much better results. And it will make you feel much more sane and healthy in the end. That’s been my personal experience anyway.
K, enough serious-talk! Without further ado, WELCOME to the new site – fresh off the press! What do you think? It might take a little time to get used to the new look, but I love it & it’s unapologetically “me”! I hope you love it as much as I do, and thank you for following along. I’d love to hear from you – what do you want to see more/less of? What do you want to talk about? You guys are what makes this whole thing worth it for me, so I want to encourage you to engage. Most of all, I’m looking forward to having fun with this new site…and I hope to inspire you and make you smile, even if it’s just for a minute during your busy day. Love you guys!!
